My Name!

Objective: “To make Cameroon a champion of citizenship on the continent.”

Despite efforts to increase childbirth registration rates, only 62% of children under the age of 05 have been registered with the civil registry, according to the 2018 Cameroon Demographic and Health Survey.

It was with a view to remedying this situation that the first-ever Cameroon Mayors' Forum was organized. It was held from April 26 to 27, 2024, at the Palais des Congrès in Yaoundé.

An opportunity to bring together the country's 374 mayors, who play a central role in the birth registration system.

A system that can be accelerated by, among other things, making civil registry services more accessible and closer to health posts, according to pilot experiments carried out in Cameroon and the region.

According to Nadine PERRAULT, UNICEF Representative in Cameroon, these are all measures that need to be taken to “make Cameroon a champion of citizenship on the continent”.
