Cameroon steps up the fight against Malaria
A potentially fatal disease, malaria particularly affects children, and, according to WHO, the World Health Organization, nearly half a million children die of malaria in Africa every year.
With a view to stepping up the fight against this disease, Cameroon, through its Minister of Public Health, took delivery on Tuesday November 21, 2023 of 331,200 doses of the antimalarial vaccine, Mosquirix, RTS,S.
In January 2024, precisely on the 22nd, this vaccine was introduced into the vaccination schedule of the Expanded Program on Immunization, EPI, and is available for this phase in 42 Health Districts in the country's 10 regions.
It is administered free of charge, in 04 doses, to children aged 06 months, 07 months, 09 months and 24 months.
In addition to existing preventive measures to combat malaria, it is recommended that children be vaccinated, as the vaccine considerably reduces malaria morbidity and mortality in young children.
The Mosquirix, RTS, S vaccine received by Cameroon was prequalified by the WHO in July 2022.
WHO prequalification guarantees the safety and quality of vaccines.
