What is Mpox?
Also known as Monkeypox, #Mpox is a viral disease present in animals and now circulating in humans.
How is Mpox transmitted?
It is transmitted from animal to human, and from person to person.
In the 1st case, animal-to-human transmission, a human being can contract Mpox through physical contact with an infected animal. This may be via a bite or scratch, or during activities such as hunting, skinning, or preparing a meal, or by eating undercooked meat.
From one person to another, Mpox is transmitted mainly through close contact. This includes skin-to-skin contact (touching or sexual relations, for example) and mouth-to-mouth or mouth-to-skin contact (kissing). It is also transmitted through the respiratory droplets of an infected person, as well as indirectly via contaminated materials, such as bed linen.
What are the symptoms of Mpox?
Mpox causes several symptoms, including:
- Fever,
- Aches and pains,
- Headaches,
- Felling tired,
- Skin rashes (pimples).
