PETVISIDAME
HIV/AIDS: Eliminating mother-to-child transmission
Having started in November 2019, and due to run until March 2025, the Project for the Elimination of Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV and AIDS and the Management of HIV in Children and Adolescents in Cameroon, PETVISIDAME, has as its main challenge the elimination of mother-to-child transmission of HIV/AIDS.
Thanks to this project, a rapid diagnosis of infected pregnant women in the districts concerned has been carried out, and early care for mother and child has been ensured, as well as follow-up of patients on ARV treatment, not forgetting psychological support.
More than 2.5 million children and adolescents are living with HIV, the epidemic is concentrated in sub-Saharan Africa, and HIV is the leading cause of death among adolescents and young people in sub-Saharan Africa.
To address this situation and combat HIV, UNICEF has focused its actions on preventing HIV infections and improving access to testing and treatment. The aim is to save lives and eradicate AIDS by 2030.
