What is disability?

According to the United Nations, people with disabilities are defined as those with long-term physical, mental, intellectual or sensory impairments whose interaction with various barriers may hinder their full and effective participation in society on an equal basis with others.

In other words, “disability” is the result of an interaction between disabled people and an environment full of physical, social, and other barriers.

Around the world, many people with disabilities are victims of discrimination.
